SAFEGUARDING ASIA’S FORESTS
We are committed to helping regenerate and protect forest and mangrove forest areas.
Look at our past and present projects to see what we have already achieved.
Southeast Asia, including Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, and Thailand, is home to nearly 15% of the world’s tropical forests. The region has one of the highest rates of deforestation, losing at least 1.2% of its forests annually. Deforestation is also one of the most serious environmental issues in Sri Lanka. Causes include illegal logging, agricultural expansion, urbanization and forest fires.
At Khiri Reach, we fight for a region where remaining tropical forest areas will be preserved and the deforested land will be regenerated.
Khiri Reach aspires to support educational and training programs as well as solutions to protect tropical forest areas and regenerate the deforested land. We will look for:
- Initiatives to plant more trees and mangrove forests
- Solutions to produce responsible and sustainable wood-based products and paper
- Initiatives to support the livelihoods of forest-dependent communities
- Ecotourism and/or community-based tourism in forest areas
