Grandpass, Colombo
In 2020, the community of Grandpass, Sri Lanka, felt the significant impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Widespread lockdowns and economic difficulties placed numerous families in a precarious financial situation, leading to urgent challenges in securing basic necessities. The pandemic prompted an emergency situation, as many Grandpass families grappled with unemployment and financial strains, resulting in limited access to essential resources.
Recognizing the pressing need for assistance, particularly in the form of grocery packages to alleviate food insecurity, Khiri’s Sri Lanka team collaborated with a local NGO. Together, they extended support to 250 families in Grandpass, Colombo, by donating essential grocery packages. This collaborative effort played a critical role in aiding the community during a period of economic turmoil, emphasizing the significance of community support in times of crisis and addressing the immediate requirement for essential supplies.
